  HUMAN RIGHTS ADVISORY & AWARENESS COMMISSION

Advises the City Council on ways to:

  • Promote awareness, recreation, employment, legislation, education, accessibility, and participation of and for minority groups, including persons with disabilities

  • Remove any inequalities that pertain to minority groups and disabled status in such areas as housing, recreation, education, employment, law enforcement, services, and accessibility

  • Encourage participation by minority groups and disabled persons in City programs

ESSAY CONTEST

Council Liaison: Iggy Yuan

Meets: 3rd Tuesday, every other month (even-numbered months), 6:30 p.m., City Hall, 139 S. Kirkwood Rd.  In 2009, the committee will meet in February, April, June, August, October, and December.

ESSAY CONTEST

The HRAAC sponsors an essay contest each year that is open to 11th grade students who live in or attend school in Kirkwood.  For 2009, the topic was: "What do you see as the single most important societal problem facing Kirkwood?"  Four winning student essays are selected each year in the following categories:  First Place, Second Place, Third Place, Honorable Mention.  For 2009, the winners are listed below along with a link to their respective winning essays.
