Remember to click the icon in the left-hand corner to go back to the map-index page.  The back button on your browser will not work.

If the map does not display when you click on the link, click the icon that looks like this .  This should refresh the map to the full extent.

If you want to identify an item on the map, make the layer that you want to identify "active" and then click this button .  Layers are listed on the right side of the map.

You can use the measure tool to measure the distance between two or more points.  Click the button that looks like this , to set your measurement units, (ie. feet, miles meters).  Then simply click on the button that looks like this .  Click the starting position, then click the next position and so on.  A window will display segment distances and also total distances.

You can use the buffer tool to show what items are a certain distance from your selection.  First select a point, or a group of points using the following button .  This will let you draw a rectangle.  This button allows you to draw multiple sided shapes.  After you have selected the item then press this button to set your buffer requests.  You can use this button to clear your selection.

Question: The map isn't working.

Answer: Kirkwood's Internet GIS was designed to run on Internet Explorer, version 5 and after. It may not work as well on other browsers.

Question: I'm using Internet Explorer version 5 or latest versions. It still isn't working.

Answer: Clearing your browser cache may solve the problem of a bogged-down, slow-to-respond Internet session.
From the browser's file menu: "Tools" -> "Internet Options" will call a dialogue box.
Under "General" tab, "Temporary Internet files" section, select "Delete Files..." This will call a command box.
Check the box for "Delete all offline content" and select "OK".
When finished, click "OK" to close the main dialogue box. Close and re-open Internet Explorer, and try the map again.

Question: I'm using the identifier tool to call up data. I click on a location, but nothing happens.

Answer: Data opens in a new, pop-up window. Some Internet browsers have pop-up window blocking ability. If your browser blocks the pop-up window, you can set the blocker to allow particular pop-ups. Pop-up blocker software usually lists what websites attempted to block pop-ups. Set the software to allow for "w3.kirkwoodmo.org".
